William M Staerkel Planetarium

Sound

Sound is as important in a presentation as images.

The planetarium sound system features twelve speakers hidden behind the dome, arranged to provide four channels of sound. Two huge (18 inch!!) subwoofers pump out the bass, and add realism to explosions, rocket liftoffs, and earthquakes!

Audio equipment fills TWO six-foot tall racks. Each speaker in the system has its own amplifier. The sound system supplies a generous 3,000 Watts total to the planetarium theatre - enough to literally shake the very building.

Seating

The most comfortable chairs in town!

The audience sits in reclined seats, just right for stargazing at the overhead screen. Feel like you're "part of the action" when watching one of our large-screen films. There are 144 seats, all with great views, in the theatre.

The aluminum hemispheric dome is 50-feet in diameter, making us the second largest planetarium in the state!
