A Support Program for Career/Occupational Students at Parkland College
What is the Perkins Grant?

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provides assistance to students in career and technical education programs. Intended to increase the competitiveness of the U.S. in the world economy by improving workers’ technical skills nationwide, the Perkins Grant helps students succeed in school and complete their education.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that by the year 2005, 65 percent of jobs will require some education beyond high school. Today, more than 50 percent of U.S. employers report that they cannot find qualified applicants for entry-level positions. Many Parkland College students in the career and occupational programs can benefit from the Perkins Grant, and will find a world of career opportunities awaiting them when they finish school.
