For the first time in Parkland history, the Cobra sports teams have earned the Mid-West Athletic Conference title in all four fall sports. The Cobra Golf, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, and Volleyball teams have all won the outright titles in their respective sports.

Parkland CobrasThe #1 ranked and undefeated Cobra Volleyball team wrapped up their 20th consecutive title on Saturday as they swept past the competition at the M-WAC tourney to go a perfect 6-0. The Cobras have not lost an M-WAC match since the 2003 season when they fell to John Wood. This season, the Cobras are 45-0 and have won 39 of the 45 matches in 3-0 sweeps.
The team’s depth is their biggest asset and has been led by a nice mixture of returning players and newcomers. Lizzy Barnard was last week’s NJCAA D-2 Player of the Week while Laura Gross leads the team in kills (362), Madison Harpest has 447 digs, Sofi Kelemete 252 blocks, and Miaya Peacock 74 service aces. Parkland has seven regular seasons matches left before tournament play kicks off on November 4. Coach Cliff Hastings and the Cobras will be the top seed and will need to win a pair of matches to return to Nationals for the 8th straight year.
The Golf team got things started this season, as they won the M-WAC Golf Tournament back on September 27 in Wood River. The Cobras edged out ICC by three strokes to win their 11th conference title and first since the Spring of 2014. Coach Corbin Sebens team entered five tournaments this fall, winning 3 while finishing 2nd and 3rd in the other two. The team was led by sophomore Dom Knight who finished in the top 5 in four of the events. The team is now off until March when the spring season will get under way.

The Women’s Soccer team clinched their second consecutive title going a perfect 6-0 in conference play. Josh Alford’s squad outscored conference foes 41-0, not allowing a goal in any of the six matches. The one two punch of Catherine McHale (17 goals 10 assists 44 points) and Ellie McKenzie (19 goals and 5 assists 43 points) has led a balanced attack. The #9 Cobras will kick off Region 24 post-season play on Sunday October 25 starting at noon. The Cobras would need to win the Region 24 title (3 matches) and a District game at the Missouri winner to earn their first ever trip to Nationals.

The Men’s Soccer team earned their 4th M-WAC title after they knocked off Lincoln Land 4-3 to wrap up conference play with a 6-1-1 record, a game better than runner-up Illinois Central. The team last won the conference title back in 2013. Daniel Kadima has paced the offense with (12 goals and 10 assists 34 points). After Kadima, Parkland has four other players who have collected at least 15 points. Jonathan Lukusa (7 goals 3 assists 17 points), Dom Crawford (5 goals 6 assists 16 points), Alex Zarco (5 goals 5 assists 15 points), and Gustavo Giordani (5 goals 5 assists 15 points) have all made big contributions. Parkland will open tournament action next Saturday when they host Lincoln Land at Noon. Mark Sikora's team will try to win three straight to secure their first trip to Nationals.
