Parkland Trustee Picked for Illinois Community College Board

James L. Ayers to serve on ICCB through June 2023

State leaders in Springfield have tapped a Parkland College trustee to fill a vacated position on the Illinois Community College Board.
Gov. Bruce Rauner appointed James L. Ayers as a member of the ICCB Sept. 29, pending Senate confirmation. The position, one statutorily authorized on the board for an active Illinois community college trustee, was recently vacated by Jake Rendleman from John A. Logan Community College in Carterville.James L. Ayers
ICCB Chairman Lazaro Lopez congratulated Ayers on his appointment.  
"Ayers' experience running a successful business and his longtime service as a community college trustee will add a distinct perspective to the board that will greatly benefit the Illinois Community College System and the students it serves," Lopez said.
Ayers' appointment expires June 30, 2023. As only the second trustee selected for this position, he expressed appreciation for the designation.
"I am honored to be appointed by the Governor to continue my service to students and student success," he said.
Ayers is CEO of Central Illinois Manufacturing Company and an attorney in Monticello, where he formerly served as mayor. He has been a Parkland College trustee since 1989 and is currently the board's secretary. A past president of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association, he currently serves on the ICCTA's Pension Reform Committee. He received the M. Dale Ensign Trustee of the Year Award from the nationwide Association of Community College Trustees in 2006 and won the Ray Hartstein Trustee Achievement Award from the ICCTA in 2004, among other honors.
