Area High School Students Win Academic Challenge Regional

Schools advance to sectionals after tests in sciences, math, English, engineering graphics, computers

The following high schools advance to sectional competition after winning in the regional competition for Academic Challenge, sponsored by Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) and hosted by Parkland College in early February.

WYSE is an international program headquartered at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Teams from 12 area high schools were tested in math, English, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering graphics and computer science. Schools participating at the regional competition, by division, were:

• Division 300: Heritage, Villa Grove, Iroquois West, Fisher
• Division 700: Monticello, St. Joseph, Unity
• Division 1500: Mahomet, Rantoul, Champaign Central, Champaign Centennial
• Unlimited: University Laboratory HS

The top two teams from each school-size division and top two individuals from each subject area within each school-size division will advance to the sectionals at Eastern Illinois University on March 9. The state finalists will compete at the I-Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign April 17–20.
