Athletic Honors
Although the season is over following a 3rd place finish at the NJCAA D-II World Series, the post-season has been busy for a pair of Cobra sophomores. A week after hearing their names called as part of the Major League Baseball draft, Parkland pitcher Brady Schanuel and catcher Jordyn Muffley have both been selected as NJCAA All-Americans. Schanuel was a 1st Team selection while Muffley earned 3rd Team honors.

SchanuelSchanuel is a two-time NJCAA All-American honoree having been named a 2nd Team selection as a freshman. He is one of only three Parkland Baseball players, Derek Drage (2002 and 2003) and Kevin Kiermaier (2009 and 2010), to be named an All-American twice. The hard throwing righty made 14 starts for the (52-9-1) Cobras this season finishing with a record of 10-1 and an earned run average of 2.13. In 80.1 innings of work, Schanuel allowed just 44 hits and 19 earned runs while walking 35 and striking out 130. He led all of NJCAA D-2 in total strikeouts and strikeouts per innings pitched. Schanuel had a two year record of (20-4) with PC and leaves as the career leader in ERA and strikeouts and is tied for career victories. He also has the single season strikeout record and game record of 21 K’s set this season. Schanuel is currently deciding on whether to sign with the Phillies who drafted him in the 20th round or attend the University of Iowa.

Muffley
Muffley was the Cobra workhorse behind the plate and team leader on and off the field this season, playing in 60 of the teams 61 games. After a solid freshman campaign, Muffley emerged at the plate this season hitting .411 with 12 home runs and 80 runs batted in. He led the team in runs scored with 70, hits 92, and doubles with 20. His 80 RBI was the third highest total in NJCAA D-II, just two behind the leader and he was also 3rd in hits just three behind the hit champion. His 70 runs scored also placed him 7th nationally. His stats put him in the top 10 in several Parkland season records: RBI’s 2nd, hits 4th, runs 6th, and doubles 10th. He was a First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection this year. Muffley has signed with Central Michigan and was drafted in the 24th round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
