Parkland College’s Dental Hygiene program is sponsoring a "Miles for Healthy Smiles" walk on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the campus's outdoor track.
This fundraising event will support the local dental not-for-profit organization SmileHealthy; all funds raised will go to SmileHealthy programs and will provide supplies for a "Day of Healthy Smiles." Registration is still possible the day of the walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $20, which includes a T-shirt.
The college's Dental Hygiene Association has currently raised more than $7,000 in T-shirt sponsorship and walk registrations.
In addition to the walk, the Dental Hygiene program, SmileHealthy and the Illini Dental Society will be sponsoring a "Day of Healthy Smiles" on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parkland College Dental Hygiene Clinic. Patients who have been screened and treatment-planned by SmileHealthy or Parkland will be treated.
Available treatment will include extractions and posterior and/or anterior restorations. Volunteer dentists will provide the treatment while volunteer dental hygienists, assistants, and students will facilitate patients; assist dentists; provide local anesthesia; and set up, clean up and sterilize unit instruments.
Please contact Renee at the dental hygiene clinic at 217/351-2221 to schedule a screening for the "Day of Healthy Smiles."
