Enjoy the Night Sky! Backyard Astronomy Workshops

Five-session workshop meets Tuesdays at Staerkel Planetarium starting Oct. 20

Monday, October 05, 2015
A sky-viewing workshop called "Backyard Astronomy" will be held at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College later this month.

"Backyard Astronomy" will meet on five consecutive Tuesdays beginning Oct. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Dave Leake, director of the Staerkel Planetarium, will teach the sessions, which concentrate on concepts that enable people to enjoy the night sky. Topics will include how to find stars and constellations, how to locate the planets, watching meteor showers, interpreting phases of the Moon, and how to buy a telescope. Handouts, projects to build, and observations to make at  home are all included in the workshop. No prior knowledge of the topics is assumed.

The cost of the workshop is $15 for adults and $10 for students, senior citizens and children (8 and over). Advance registration is required.

For registration information, see the Backyard Astronomy registration form
