Visit sites and earn 6 credits in three-week study of literature, culture

Parkland College is cosponsoring a three-week study abroad in Ireland during summer 2018.
 
Participants will earn six transferable semester credits in Irish Literature and Irish Experience courses as they take in the sights and sounds of the Emerald Isle June 5–26, 2018, visiting:Study Abroad Ireland
  • Belfast City and the northern coast: West Belfast, Giant's Causeway, Bushmills Distillery, Carrick-aRede Rope Bridge (overnight trip)
  • County Carlow: various areas
  • Kilkenny: Kilkenny Castle, St. Francis Brewery
  • Dublin City: various sites including Book of Kells (Trinity College Dublin)
  • County Wicklow, made famous in several movies including "P.S. I Love You."
  • Glendalough
Home base for participants will be Carlow College, the second oldest college in Ireland. The school is about an hour away from Dublin, which can be accessed by both train and bus. Carlow College's Irish Experience course provides students with an introduction to the history, culture, and people of Ireland.
 
This program is open to students who have a strong interest in immersing themselves in Irish culture and heritage. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the program, obtain a passport before departure and participate in a pre-trip orientation.
 
The cost to participate in this summer study abroad is $3,900, which covers tuition and instructional costs, private-bedroom housing at Carlow College, orientation and advisor costs, entry fees and transportation to the cultural excursions, and mandatory health insurance. The fee does not include international airfare from the U.S. to Ireland (est. $800–$1000), bus fare from Dublin to Carlow ($25), or meals ($300–$500).
 
A $500 deposit, taken off the total program cost, is due by February 15, 2018, the application deadline. Some partial scholarships may be available, and financial aid may apply.
