New Spring Community Ed Classes, New Way to Sign Up

Online registration, payment system now available

In keeping with a brand new year, Parkland College is offering a brand new batch of community education classes along with a new, more convenient way to register for them.Community Education Class booklet
 
From health and wellness classes to home and garden workshops and day trips, the spring 2017 "Discover" booklet features dozens of new personal development classes the public can enjoy this spring. Several of these courses are described below along with a list of returning popular courses. Please visit the Discover booklet online for further description about classes. 

In addition, residents may now register, pay for, and confirm the courses they wish to take, through an easy online system. To register, visit www.parkland.edu/btce and click on Find a Class. People may also register by phone at 217/353-2055 or in person at Parkland College Business Training & Community Education, 1315 N. Mattis Ave., Champaign.

Among the new courses are:

Mindful Food Awareness: Learn to improve your relationship with food through mindfulness meditation and exercises that help you make beneficial food choices, interrupt binges, and handle cravings.
 
Internet Security at Home and On the Go: An experienced analyst shows you how to provide your own best protection against scams, viruses, and malicious software.
 
Acing Your Presentation: Learn practical and proven ways to better your presentation and public speaking skills with Cynthia Bruno, TV news anchor with more than 4,000 hours of experience reporting live.
 
The Joy of Yoga: Gain physical health and well-being from learned poses while opening and deepening your understanding of an integrative yoga practice through meditative practices, breath work, and yoga journaling.
 
Whole-Body Movement: No time for the gym? Learn exercises and lifestyle modifications that will help you move all of your parts more of the time for whole-body health.
 
Poetry Workshop for Adults over 50: Explore, develop, write, share, and critique your original poems with classmates and the guidance of an experienced instructor.
 
Etsy Made Easy: Learn the basics of setting up a shop at Etsy,the largest online marketplace for handmades.
 
Painting the Still Life: Explore the fundamentals of paint and painting, including color, materials, and the handling of paint.
 
Songs of the Civil War: Learn the stories behind Civil War-era songs, including "Lorena," "Goober Peas," "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," and more.
 
New Beekeeping Workshops, including Planning to Keep Bees, Pollination for Nature Lovers, and The Secret Life of Honey.

New Woodworking Classes, including Using Power Tools for Woodworking and Woodworking Safety,
 
New Day Trips, including Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit at Peoria Riverfront Museum; Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis; and Mansions and Millionaires: the McCormickville Walking Tour in Chicago.
