Free grant writing workshop for nonprofits, others

College to host state-sponsored workshop Oct. 31; pre-registration required

Monday, September 24, 2012
October 24 is the deadline to sign up for a free grant writing and program plan development workshop, sponsored by the state and hosted by Parkland College.

Designed to assist nonprofit representatives and others interested in obtaining grant funding, the intensive Grantsmanship Workshop will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Parkland Business Training & Community Education, 1315 N. Mattis Ave., Champaign. The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Office of Grants Administration offers one-day grantsmanship training events throughout Illinois.

Workshop participants can expect training in two key areas:

* Program Plan Development: Learn to write a better program description
that clearly addresses the identified need for the program and succinctly
describes the approach, activities, and methods of assessment and evaluation.

* Grant Writing: Develop a logical, systematic way to approach proposal
development, and learn to avoid common mistakes that contribute to the denial
of a proposal.

Participants are eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEU). The session includes an hourlong break so that participants may obtain lunch on their own. More information about the workshop at Parkland is available at www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=61647 .

Space is limited to 35 participants and pre-registration is required; on-site registration will not be accepted. Register by e-mail to philip.matute@illinois.gov or by fax to 312/793-9576. Registrants must include the following information: name, address, phone, email, and agency affiliation (if applicable).
