Class of 2016 to receive recognition during Men's Basketball halftime 

Parkland College Athletics has announced the newest members of its Athletic Hall of Fame.
The six Class of 2016 inductees will be honored in conjunction with the Parkland Cobras Men's Basketball game against Lincoln Land Community College. The game begins at 3 p.m. This is the 10th Hall of Fame class chosen since the inaugural induction in 2007.

The honorees, featuring four former student-athletes and two contributors, are mentioned below. The class will be introduced during halftime at the game (some time after 3:30 p.m.) and will be honored at a private reception immediately following.

Each honoree was nominated by former Parkland College coaches and administrators and finalized in a vote by the Hall of Fame selection committee. SuperValu the presenting sponsor for the ceremony, while Busey Bank and Worden-Martin, Inc. are the corporate sponsors.
The 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame Class:
Leslie (Houia) Burnside (Volleyball): Cobra All-American in 1995; two time All-Regional and Conference player.

Derek Drage (Baseball): First two-time 1st Team All-American. A career leader in wins (20) and top three in career earned run average and strikeouts, he helped the Cobras to their first World Series title in 2002.

Carl Meyer (Contributor): Former Parkland Foundation director who was instrumental in creating the Hall of Fame and securing naming rights for the Dodds Athletic Center.

Keith Parks (Men’s Basketball): He averaged 24.5 points per game in 2002-2003, earning team MVP, All-Conference, and All-Region honors.

Rachel Schroeder (Contributor): The College’s first employee has been an ardent supporter of Cobra Athletics.

Steve Ward (Baseball): He hurled for the Cobras in 1973 and 1974 and is still one of Parkland’s leaders in strikeouts per game and season.
