Career, Technical Education Open House

Students to explore CTE options, take part in sessions simulating on-the-job conditions with industry-recognized equipment 

Regional high school juniors and seniors will soon compete in pit crew contests, fly drones, wire circuits, and participate in other hands-on activities to learn about options in career and technical education (CTE) fields.CTE Open House

The annual Parkland College CTE Open House will take place Friday, Oct. 20, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., starting at the Dodds Athletic Center (gym area).

Parkland's state-of-the-art lab spaces will host the day’s events. The Parkhill Applied Technology Center, the Tony Noel Agricultural Technology Applications Center, and the Construction Education Alliance (Parkland on Mattis) will simulate on-the-job conditions using industry-recognized equipment.

Students will choose three innovative sessions from the following CTE areas: automotive; aviation; collision repair; diesel power; emerging agriculture technologies; industrial automation; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning; construction management; United Steel Workers Local 7-838; industrial welding; electrical power; engineering science; and horticulture. Each session will last 40 minutes and provide a hands-on, career-exploration activity.

High schools are encouraged to bring groups of interested students. However, parents/guardians are also invited to bring their high schooler to the event should the local high school choose not to participate. Every participant will receive a free T-shirt and lunch.
