His talk will take place on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:15 p.m. in the Parkland Art Gallery.
Ekstrom taught painting, drawing, and figure drawing from 1979 through 2001. Originally from Chicago, he received both his BFA and MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He lived in Paris for a number of years prior to joining Parkland’s faculty. Ekstrom considers himself first and foremost a teacher; he has influenced many college alumni and artists in the community with his talent, energy, and humor. Since retiring, he continues his art practice and often travels to southern California, a source of inspiration for his newer work.
The retrospective includes recent and some earlier artworks on paper, as well as paintings. Ekstrom’s work is also part of Parkland College’s permanent collection, purchased through the State of Illinois Percent for the Arts program and on display in the campus’ D wing.
