William M. Staerkel Planetarium audiences will once again enjoy live music under the dome. A contemporary music concert titled "In the Dome" will be held on Nov. 1 and 2 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person at the door.
The event features the music of Suono Mobile USA, a think tank dedicated to curating programs of contemporary music on a high conceptual level, and presenting those programs in and beyond the concert hall. Suono Mobile cofounders are composer Philipp Blume and saxophonist Nathan Mandel.
The concert features Mandel performing several works from his repertoire; a new work by Blume for tenor saxophone; five-channel sound; and imagery from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Audio specialist Frank Horger and planetarium Director David Leake contribute their expertise to the program. This collaboration of saxophone and multimedia surrounds the audience with a visual and audio experience uniquely suited to the dome. Expect to be surprised!
