Acclaimed Illinois author Amy Hassinger will present a talk for Parkland's free Lifelong Learners @ the Library lecture series. Her talk, "The Writing Life and the Gift Economy," will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 10 – 11 a.m. at the Champaign Public Library.
According to
AmyHassinger.com, the author is a Newton, Massachusetts, native and graduate of Barnard College and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she received her MFA in fiction writing. She is the author of
Nina: Adolescence (Putnam 2003), which won a Publisher’s Weekly Listen Up! Award and was selected as Audio Book of the Year by ForeWord Magazine, and
The Priest’s Madonna (Putnam 2006), named a May 2006 Book Sense Notable pick. Hassinger received a 2006 Finalist Award in prose from the Illinois Arts Council and was named a semi-finalist for the 2005 Julia Peterkin Award. Her work has appeared in many publications, including South Dakota Review, Hunger Mountain, UU World Magazine, Arts and Letters, Salt Hill, and Natural Bridge.
