Sat, Sep 06, 2014 starting at 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Actors 18+ needed for multiple roles in black box theatre inaugural show

Around the World 80 DaysParkland Theatre will hold open auditions for Laura Eason's adaptation of Jules Verne's classic novel Around the World in 80 Days Saturday, Sept. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Callbacks will be held Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at the theatre.

Director Tom Mitchell will be casting male and female actors ages 18+ for an inventively staged show, to be performed as the inaugural production in Parkland Theatre’s new black box theatre, the Second Stage. Ensemble actors will perform numerous roles. Auditions will consist of selected readings from the script. Character descriptions and audition readings can be found online at www.parkland.edu/theatre.

In Around the World in 80 Days, Phileas Fogg—fantastically wealthy, majestically mysterious, and a dedicated man of scientific reason—has deduced that a mere 80 days is enough to circumnavigate the globe. He has staked his entire fortune on it! Will bandits, a herd of buffalo, an act of chivalry, and a meddlesome inspector from Scotland Yard prevent him from fulfilling this mindboggling task? Follow Fogg and his loyal valet Passepartout from the misty alleys of Victorian London to the steamy subcontinent, aboard steamships, locomotives, and elephants, as he learns about the heart, himself, and a world bigger than he ever anticipated.

Performances take place Nov. 14– 23. No appointment is necessary to audition. All members of the community as well as Parkland and U of I students are invited to audition; Parkland Theatre encourages diversity. Those with questions should email theatre@parkland.edu.
