Theatre: "30 Neo-Futurist Plays"

Wed, Nov 14, 2012 starting at 7:30 PM - Sun, Nov 18, 2012 starting at 3:00 PM

Be a part of the fast-paced theatrical experience--30 plays in 60 minutes!

Be a part of the madness when Parkland Theatre presents an unpredictable evening of short plays where the audience decides the order at a moment’s notice. Five performances only, starting Wednesday Nov. 14!

Parkland Theatre will perform 30 Neo-Futurist plays from "Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind" (30 plays in 60 minutes), comprised of playlets selected from the Chicago Neo-Futurists’ frenetic and long-running signature show. The Neo-Futurists also have a New York company of this wildly popular experimental theatre piece. As a warm-up to the craziness, Christopher Durang’s short comic play “The Actor’s Nightmare,” will also be performed.

Performances are November 14, 15, 16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and November 18 at 3 p.m. in the theatre.

Director J.W. Morrissette and assistant director Seth Valentine will direct a company of Parkland, University of Illinois, and local community actors including Clara Byczkowski, David Dillman, Sherrika Ellison, DeVonte Johnson, Michelle Mills, Zach Ross, Griffen Schulman, Mark Fox, Seth Valentine, and Rachel Warren.

“Too Much Light…” is a wild, frantic attempt to perform 30 plays in one hour — comedies, dramas, you name it! A countdown clocks ticks down as the audience shouts out a random numbers. The actors must immediately perform the corresponding play at a moment’s notice; will they remember which comes next and get through all 30 plays in time? Join the audience fun to find out!

“The Actor’s Nightmare” is an appropriately zany one-act about an actor who has stumbled on stage and is not quite sure of which play he is performing.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors (55+), and $10 each for groups of 15 or more. Opening night, Wednesday, Nov. 14, is “Roll the Dice Night,” where you pay the total of what you roll on two dice. Roll doubles and get in free!
