UMP Dirt Car Series Sportsman

A growing student interest in sport compact cars led us this 1990 Honda Civic Si. A decision was made to build a car to compete in SCCA sanctioned Autocross events. Autocross is a timed event where cars run one at a time through a series of pylons usually in a large parking lot. After students researched SCCA rules and regulations, we set a goal to build a car to compete in the Street Touring Stock (STS.) A car was located and acquired in January of 2007, this civic went through a thorough rebuild of nearly everything from engine to suspension. The engine received a rebuild to factory specifications along with all new service items. Rust on the chassis was patched and all suspension components were removed. While removed, all the suspension components were sandblasted, painted and received new polyurethane Energy Suspension bushings. After several events on worn shocks and all season tires, adjustable KYB Shocks & Ground Control Coilovers were added. Adding more traction to the new suspension was accomplished with Falken Azenis tires wrapped around Kosei K-1 rims. Cusco Strut Tower Braces and a Lower Tie Bar were also added to stiffen the chassis.

The Civic can be seen competing at local Autocross events usually hosted by the Champaign County Sports Car Club (CCSCC). These events are most often in Rantoul and Charleston Illinois. A calendar of autocross events can be found at the CCSCC Website, or on our Parkland Motorsports Home Page, under "Where To See Us Next."
