Out and About

~ Virginia Stout attended "Reaching Forward South," a conference for library support staff, in Springfield.  Sessions included Illinois Library Confidentiality Act and campaign for secure and safe library environment.
~ Janet Wilkinson
spent a day at the Illinois Library Association annual convention at Navy Pier in Chicago.  She attended workshops on Developing a Foreign Video Collection and Delivering Library Support for Distance Learners and browsed the vendors' booths.
~ Lori Sprague
attended the Midwest Archives Conference Fall Meeting in Rapid City, SD.  Sessions included archives mission statements, development of finding aids for archive collections, cataloging of collections, collection development policies for archives, and appraisal of archives.

~ Nancy Bode
attended two workshops: "Getting to Know OCLC's Interlibrary Loan MicroEnhancer" at Lincoln Trail Libraries System in Champaign and "Using the OCLC Cataloging MicroEnhancer for Windows" at Illinois State Library in Springfield.  Both workshops provided hands-on instruction.
~ Ray Bial was a guest speaker at Grandview School and Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, Indiana.  He also was a member of a panel discussion hosted by the Governor's office at the opening of the Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield.
~ This fall the Parkland Library hosted English composition classes from Villa Grove High School and Mahoment-Seymour High School. Students were able to use our new classroom. Librarians demonstrated a variety of research databases, which students found very useful. Many students checked out books related to their papers. We enjoy the opportunity to work with potential future Parkland students.
