Many career options are available in the veterinary technology field. Most
graduates find employment in small, mixed, or large animal practices. Other
interesting job opportunities exist in biomedical research, pharmaceutical
companies, sales, veterinary schools, specialty practices, humane societies,
zoos, and various federal and state agencies.
The US. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment for veterinary technicians to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. In Illinois, faster than average growth is also projected.
In recent years, each graduate of the veterinary technology program has received
two to three job offers.
Average salaries for veterinary technology graduates ranged from $23,920 to $37,440/year in 2006, depending on the type of job and geographic location. Graduates have reported starting salaries averaging $14.43/hour.
