All health professions programs require a State Police background check prior to or at the start of the first course in a program. A positive finding realted to a felony confiction may limit clinical placement and employment.
This is a selective admissions program, and applicants are assigned an admission
score based on ACT score, grade point average, and other criteria. To be
admitted into the surgical technology program, you must assess into ENG 101
(Composition I) and MAT 095 (Beginning Algebra), and meet the minimum qualifying
admission score of 2.3.
New classes are admitted each fall semester. First consideration is given to
those who submit all admission credentials by March 1 of the year you wish
to enter the program. If you miss the March 1 date, you are still encouraged
to apply as there may be seats available.
For the certificate the biology and English courses required prior to entering
the Surgical Technology program may be completed in two semesters of part-time
study. The surgical technology course work may then be completed in two full-time
semesters and one summer. The A.A.S. degree may be completed in four semesters
of full-time study plus one summer.
You will develop your skills through supervised clinical work in area hospital
operating rooms. You will be an active participant of the surgical team and
will complete rotations through surgical specialty areas. |

As a graduate, you’ll qualify to take the national certification examination
to become a certified surgical technologist.
This program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education of the
Surgical Technologist of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP).
