The Surgical Technologist
If
you have the desire to help people and thrive working in a fast-paced environment,
you would enjoy a career as a surgical technologist. As part of the surgical
team, you will work alongside surgeons, nurses, and other surgical staff
to care for patients before, during, and immediately after surgery.
Working in a hospital operating room, the surgical technologist primarily
provides assistance to the surgeon. During an operative procedure, the surgical
technologist’s
main task is to predict the needs of the surgeon and the patient. The surgical
technologist must be knowledgeable in anatomy, microbiology, and pathophysiology,
and learn to “think like the surgeon.”
