Hands-on, supervised practice is an integral part of your training. You can
complete your clinical work in hospitals locally or in your specific community
if you are an out-of-district resident.
Parkland College's Respiratory Care program has been in existence since 1971.
The program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory
Care, which is under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP). The program prepares students to become registered respiratory
therapists (RRT).
Full-time, you can earn your A.A.S. degree in 20 months — in four regular
semesters and one summer term. Flexible part-time schedules are also available
for general education courses.
You are eligible to take the National Board for Respiratory Care’s Registry
Examination for Advanced Respiratory Therapists (RRT).
All health professions programs require a State Police background check prior to or at the start of the first course in a program. A positive finding related to a felony conviction may limit clinical placement and employment.
This is a selective admissions program – applicants must meet a minimum qualifying admissions score and be admitted into the program before taking RTT courses. Completion of the supportive courses prior to entering the program is highly recommended – especially BIO 121, BIO 122, BIO 123, and MAT 131. |

New classes are admitted each fall semester. You should submit all admission
credentials by March 1 of the year you wish to enter the program. Contact Parkland’s
Admissions office at 217/351-2482 and request the Health Professions admissions
procedures.
