Infection Control in the Dental Office (HCS 624)
8 hour (1day)
The course is designed to train the dental auxiliary and the dental receptionist in the latest infection control procedures. The course will guide the staff through the regulations for the office OSHA compliance with hands-on practical experience. The course will include 8 hours of instruction on the Parkland College campus with a maximum of 10 persons per class. The following objectives will be met.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the characteristics of microorganisms and the role of microorganisms in disease and infection control.
- Define the rationale for infection control.
- Identify and describe the infection control regulatory agencies and the regulations that apply to the dental health care worker.
- Identify, describe, and demonstrate the use of protective barriers.
- Describe asepsis and principles of aseptic technique.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of cleaning, sterilizing, and disinfecting equipment/agents in all areas of the dental facility.
- Define regulations and guidelines concerning disposal of hazardous waste management.
- Understand the bloodborne pathogens standards, hazard communication standards and the role of the compliance manager as described by OSHA.
- Define the principles of office safety and describe a plan for office safety which complies with all regulations and guidelines.
- Apply the principles of office safety in the dental care environment.
Cost of the course:
Tuition is $36 plus a lab fee of $20 for a total of $56 per person.
