Comprehensive introduction to conscious sedation (i.e., the administration of nitrous oxide) for the registered dental hygienist; anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and dental emergencies. Teach the dental hygienist to start the flow of nitrous oxide to the patient; monitor induction of gas so that the patient is at a level of analgesia, not anesthesia; and removal of nitrous oxide sedation after treatment has been completed. Proof of licensure in the state of Illinois is required
