TRiO/SSS Scholarship Information

Every year the TRiO/SSS office sets aside funds to assist qualified SSS participants with paying their educational expenses.  The amount offered students range from $400 to $4050 and is dependent upon financial need and the below qualifications.  Please be sure that you read carefully the qualifcations and process for applying for the SSS Scholarship.

  • Students must be an active member of the TRiO/SSS program for at least one semester.
  • Students must be receiving a Federal PELL Grant.
  • Students must apply for financial aid through FAFSA and financial aid must have been offered by Parkland College before being considered for this scholarship.
  • Students must have met with their TRiO/SSS advisor three separate times for the beginning, middle and end of the semester meetings. 
  • Students must have attended a minimum of three different TRiO/SSS sponsored activities during the semester.
  • Students must have a semester GPA of 2.25 or better and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.
  • Students must complete all classes attempted.  Exceptions are rare, but may be considered on a case by case basis.
    Note – Because the scholarship is based partly on GPA’s, students taking incompletes will not be considered for the scholarship.
  • Students must not drop or withdraw from any courses during the semester the scholarship is awarded. Any drop or withdrawal from classes during the semester will result in a reduction, cancellation or even repayment of the scholarship.  For additional information, see the Program Director.
  • Students must be in a transferable, degree seeking program.
  • Students must display good character and be a positive role model for the program.

Additional Summer Qualifications

  • Students must have received the PELL Grant in the previous Spring semester and be eligible to receive the PELL Grant in the following Fall Semester.
  • Students who are interested in the TRiO/SSS scholarship for the summer session must complete the Parkland College Summer Student Aid Request form before the last day of final exams in the Spring semester.  Additionally, students must be enrolled in summer classes by the last day of final exams.
  • The amount of scholarship offered during the summer is based on financial aid eligibility and the number of credit hours enrolled.  If you withdraw or drop a course after the scholarship aid is processed, you will be billed.
