EXPECTATIONS

Communication works both ways.  A strong commitment by both mentors and mentees holds the Peer Mentoring Program together!  BOTH mentors and mentees will maintain communication with each other via email, phone, mail, and in-person meetings.

Mentors will:

  • Initiate and maintain regular contact with their mentees.
  • Explore the purpose of the relationship with their mentees, sharing goals and expectations.
  • Generate an informed perspective and objective point of view on student issues.
  • Share personal and professional experience, knowledge, skills, and ideas with mentees.
  • Assist with motivation and confidence.
  • Recognize and encourage potential in the mentees.
  • Exhibit patience and tolerance.
  • Contact Chasity Bree if there are any comments or concerns regarding mentees and/or the mentoring program.

Mentees will:

  • Respond promptly to mentor’s initial contact and continue to maintain regular contact with their mentor.
  • Explore the purpose of the relationship with your mentor, sharing honestly and openly about their needs and challenges.
  • Be motivated and possess the desire to improve and succeed.
  • Open their minds to new points of view and honest feedback.
  • Listen to the mentor’s advice, but remember that the final choice is always theirs.
  • Accept that there may be times when their mentor may refer them to other sources for assistance.
  • Exhibit patience and tolerance.
  • Appreciate mentor’s time and effort.
  • Contact Chasity Bree if there are any comments or concerns regarding their mentor and/or the mentoring program.
