Tutorial Services

Did somebody say Tutoring?

Are you having difficulties in one or more of your classes?  Are you doing well in your classes but interested in doing better?  REMEMBER…individualized tutoring (one-on-one) is one of the resources that is offered through TRiO/Student Support Services. Tutoring doesn’t take the place of classroom attendance or using your instructor as your primary resource (during class & office hours), but if you’re committed to doing your part, a little one-on-one attention may be all that’s needed. Tutors and tutees meet 2-3 hours per week, at a time and location that’s convenient for both. Should you need a tutor, stop by the TRiO office (A244) and complete the necessary paperwork, or feel free to download forms from this site (link to tutoring forms). Please don’t wait until midterm or a few weeks before the semester ends to take advantage of this valuable resource!

Just a few reminders...

  • You will not be paired with a tutor during the first two weeks of the semester.
  • You must have completed your beginning of the semester meeting with your advisor prior to being approved for a tutor.
  • We may not have a tutor available for certain subjects requested. In this case, you will be directed to other resources.
  • Tutor requests after mid-term require special permission from the director.

And on the flipside…

We can use peer tutors!!!  Each semester we receive approximately 60 requests for one-on-one tutors, for Math, Biology, Psychology, Speech, foreign languages…you name it!  If you’ve received an A or B in a course or have placed out of a course, if you enjoy helping others, if you are good at explaining information to other people, and if you’ll have some extra time this semester, you may have what it takes to be a tutor for one or more of your peers.

Tutors work with each student 2-3 hours per week, at a campus location and time that’s convenient for both tutor and tutee.  And the position pays $7.50 an hour.  If you’re interested or need more information, talk to Mark (A246).  Feel free to call him at 353-2300 or email him at mmcdowell@parkland.edu.
