MENTORING REQUIREMENTS
Peer Mentor Position Description
Qualifications
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Parkland College.
- Must possess a strong sense of maturity, responsibility, and commitment to TRiO/SSS goals and objectives.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Must have completed at least one semester, ideally two semesters at Parkland College.
- Must have achieved academic success with at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- Must be recommended by TRiO/SSS staff.
- Must demonstrate involvement in TRiO/SSS program and/or other organizations on campus, displaying positive leadership potential.

Enrichment Coordinator/Mentor Coordinator
Job Responsibilities
- Contact participants as soon as they are accepted into the TRiO/SSS program and assigned to your caseload.
- Maintain contact with mentee throughout the semester via phone, email, and face to face meetings.
- Help mentees navigate the college system.
- Serve as an advocate for assigned mentees, directing them to appropriate resources and making referrals when appropriate.
- Respond to questions, address fears and concerns of mentees.
- Promote, encourage participation in, and accompany mentees to workshops and cultural events/activities.
- Each semester, peer mentors will plan one social activity designed to help participants meet each other and their mentors and feel at home at Parkland College.
- Assist in and lead recruitment efforts for new TRiO/SSS members.
- Attend Peer Mentor training sessions and 1:1 meetings with Mentor Coordinator.
- Prepare and submit contact logs and progress reports to Mentor Coordinator.
- Communicate with Mentor Coordinator regarding the status and growth, potential problems and concerns related to participants.
- Provide feedback to the Mentor Coordinator.
- Adhere to the code of ethics as a Parkland College student and employee.
