High School Seminar
Each year, area high school art instructors are invited to bring their
students to Parkland College to try out new materials and techniques.
This unique experience exposes many of the participants to materials
they may have not known existed, as most schools have limited resources
for art supplies. The Parkland Art Faculty provides instruction
and demonstrations to get the students started.
12th Annual High School Art Seminar
November 16 • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Close to 200 high school students and their instructors from 11 schools in our area are expected to come and explore artistic techniques during Parkland’s 11th annual High School Art Seminar. The event will be held at the Parkland Art Gallery and in the art classrooms.
Students will be taking exploring ceramics and design as a part of our current exhibition Wisdom and Folly: Works by Vince Palacios. The seminar will also include a lecture by Vince Palacios, who will be coming from Western University. He will discuss his ceramic pieces and what influences his work in the theater at 10:00 and 11:00 in the Parkland Theater. Students will also participate in two workshops exploring ceramic tiles and works on paper. Each workshop will be an hour long and will include demonstrations from volunteering Parkland Art Faculty as well as time to experiment with the materials. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in a gallery discussion, visit the art facilities on campus, and enjoy refreshments.
The Parkland Art Gallery received an Illinois Arts Council Grant and a Target Foundation Grant to help host this event and provides hands-on workshops for our high school artists and their instructors. Schnuck’s will provide refreshments for the workshop.
If you have any questions, feel free to call us at the gallery office, 351-2485.
Programs
at the Parkland Art Gallery are partially supported by a grant from the
