Art and Design Student Juried Exhibition April 14 – May 10, 2008 Entry Information

• Eligibility

Original artwork in all media taught in the Art and Design program at Parkland College is eligible. All work must be of the artist’s own design and execution. Only artwork completed for an art class at Parkland College is eligible. All work must have been completed during the past calendar year. Only work completed during classes or as assigned course work is eligible.

• Entries

1.  Paintings on stretched canvas must be properly framed and wired for hanging. Other flat work (drawings, watercolor, designs, prints, etc.) must be appropriately matted and covered with clear acetate. Acetate must completely cover the piece, including mat. Photographs must be dry mounted.

2.  Frames and glassed work will be accepted if wired for hanging. However, glassed work is discouraged because of its susceptibility to damage.

3.  Do not put wire or any hanging devices on matted work.

4.  Two entry forms must be printed for each piece of work. Affix one entry form to the upper right hand corner on the back of each piece. Keep the other entry form copy for your records.

5.  Each entrant is eligible to enter up to four pieces of work.

6.  All entries must be submitted using the online ENTRY FORM.

• Agreement

1.  By entering art works in this exhibit, the entrant agrees that his/her works are submitted for jurying.

2.  All accepted works must remain for the duration of the exhibit, as placed by the gallery staff.

3. Entrants may be asked to assist in transporting work to the gallery.

• Liability

Although every precaution will be taken, Parkland College and its staff will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to the works submitted, no matter how same may be caused. Entrants submit works subject to this condition.

• Awards

An award designation will be given to works of outstanding merit. Awards may be given in any or all media categories. Excellence will be the sole criterion for merit awards.

The Parkland President Award is $100 for outstanding artistic achievement.

The Art Coop Award for student achievement is a $100 merchandise award for sustained studio excellence.

The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Award for a summer workshop for $400 will be awarded for sustained artistic accomplishment.

• Purchase Awards

There will be a limited number of purchase awards, including the Parkland Library Purchase Award, for drawing, watercolor design, etc. The entry label must be clearly marked if the work is to be considered for one of these awards. Work may be designated “not for sale to the public” and still be considered for the purchase award if so designated on the entry label. Additionally, a work may be designated eligible for a purchase award even though the sale price to the public exceeds the purchase award amount. Indicate clearly on the entry label if a purchase award would be accepted even though it may be less than the sale price. Purchased works will become part of the Parkland College Student Art Collection, which is displayed on campus and in traveling exhibits throughout the college district.

• Sales

Entrants are encouraged to offer works for sale to the public. Except for referrals, Parkland will not act as agent in any sale transaction (other than purchases for the Student Art Collection). Parkland College does not charge a commission on sales of art from the student exhibit.
