- Juror
Mr. Alan Leder is the executive director of the Evanston Art Center in Evanston,
Illinois. Leder was the senior program director at the Illinois Arts Council
for 17 years and served as the assistant director of visual arts for the
Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. He earned his BFA in painting from
Northern Illinois University, and an MFA in sculpture and filmmaking from
the Art Institute of Chicago. He is an award-winning photographer,
with work in many public and private collections.
This exhibition will be held at Parkland College Art Gallery, Champaign,
Illinois
- The Parkland College Art Gallery is a teaching gallery that strives
to serve the educational needs and interests of the diverse audience
that is present in a public institution. Through its program
of exhibitions, the gallery seeks to promote the development of artistic
talent and aesthetic awareness while at the same time expanding the
audience’s appreciation of various art forms.
- Calendar
06/25/04: Slides due; entry forms and slides must be postmarked by
this date
08/06/04: Notification letters will be mailed
12/15/04: Accepted shipped artwork must be delivered by 4 pm
Accepted hand-delivered artwork must be delivered to the Parkland College
Art Gallery, Champaign, Illinois from 9am to 4pm
01/10/05: Exhibition opens
01/13/05: Reception 6-8 pm; gallery talk 7 pm; awards announced
02/21/05: Exhibited hand-delivered work must be picked up at Parkland
College room D026 from 9 am to 4 pm. Shipped artwork will be returned
to artist shortly after show is completed.
- Awards
Best of show - $1,000 • 1st prize - $750 • 2nd prize - $500
- Eligibility
Open to all artists residing in the United States, 18 years and older, working
in the following disciplines: painting, sculpture, ceramics, metals,
drawing, printmaking, photography, textiles, and mixed media. No
videos accepted. All work must be original and completed within the
past two years. ONLY original work is shown, reproductions are not
allowed.
- Specifications
Complete work (frames and bases included) must fit into a standard 4” x
12” x 8” shoebox. Work must be completely prepared for
hanging with screw eyes and wire attached (no saw tooth hangers). If applicable,
plexiglass should be used (no glass). Sculpture must not weigh more than
20 pounds.
- Jury Instructions
Jurying is by slides only. Submitted slides must be 35mm, in color,
and in plastic mounts. Slides must be clearly marked with artist’s
name; title of work; dimensions (H x L x W); arrow indicating top of work;
and the number as listed on the entry form. Submit one slide for each
two-dimensional work, and two slides for each three-dimensional work. No
more than three slides will be permitted for each 2D artist and no more than
six slides for each 3D artist.
- Entry Fee
$25.00 for up to three slides (three art works). Each sculpture entry
may have one detail slide. Make check payable to Parkland Art Gallery. All
fees are nonrefundable and payable in U.S. currency. Fees must be included
with slides.
- Liability
Works will be handled with the utmost care. The Parkland College Art
Gallery will provide insurance coverage for damage or loss while in the possession
of the gallery, from the time of receipt through the time of setup and exhibition. The
amount of coverage will be limited to the repair or replacement value, as
stated by the artist on this form, in advance of the exhibition. The
gallery does not insure works in transit. This is the responsibility
of the artist. Parkland College Art Gallery cannot be held responsible
for damage to work during shipping.
- Agreement
Submitting an entry to this show constitutes an agreement with all conditions
of this show. Parkland College Art Gallery assumes the right to photograph
an accepted work for publicity or catalogue purposes. The Parkland
College Art Gallery reserves the right to reject works accepted by the
juror that have been inaccurately represented by the slide, and reserves
the right to reject works from exhibition that are deemed extraordinarily
fragile or unstable.
- Sales
Exhibited works available for sale will be sold at the price indicated on
the entry form only. Parkland College Art Gallery will not permit
changes in price upon acceptance. A commission of 30% percent will
be retained for each work sold during the exhibit. Works not for
sale should be listed “NFS,” but a value must be stated for
insurance purposes.
- Shipping
Artists are responsible for shipping charges to the Parkland College Art
Gallery; the gallery will pay for return shipping to the artist. We
strongly suggest that you insure your work while it is in transit. All
work must be shipped UPS and sent with reusable box and materials (no packing
peanuts please). We will return shipment via UPS and only UPS.
- Notification
Please include with your entry a SASE for notification and return of slides. Please
see calendar for notification dates.
- Entry
Mail to Parkland College Art Gallery, Shoebox Show, 2400 W. Bradley Ave.,
Champaign, IL 61821. Postmark deadline for entries is 06/25/04.
