Gallery Talk by Preston Jackson: Thursday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m.
The Parkland Art gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “A View Outside: An Expression in Afrocentric Creativity” curated by Preston Jackson.
This show contains a selection of work in several medias from seven artists. “The participants in this show are emerging African-American artists, who are rapidly building names for themselves. They show strong social concerns centered around their own personal diasporas. The works of these artists speak about their struggle for recognition with the mainstream of American art.”

Preston Jackson, who cuarated this exhibition is a Professor of Sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His gallery talk will provide insight into the work of the participating artists and how the exhibiting provide a sampling of some outstanding examples of works being created by African-American artists in our region.

Participating artists: Sonja Henderson of Chicago, Lester Julian Merriweather of Memphis Tennessee, John Rozelle of Chicago, Joanne Scott of Chicago, David Standifer of Chicago, Jason Sweet of Urbana, and Bernard Williams of Chicago.

This exhibit is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
