The Parkland Program
This program prepares students for careers in radio and television engineering and technical support. As students prepare for professional certification, they may develop their skills by operating and maintaining WPCD-FM, Parkland’s 10,500-watt radio station.
Length of study
Because the program has been designed for both full- and part-time students, you can earn your A.A.S. degree in two years of full-time study or longer if you are a part-time student.
Certification and permit requirements
Federal law requires a restricted radiotelephone operator permit for persons who operate and maintain broadcast transmitters in radio and television stations. No examination is required to obtain one. Some states require persons working with microwave to have a general radiotelephone operator license.
Certification by the Society of Broadcast Engineers is a mark of competence and experience. The certificate is issued to experienced technicians who pass an examination.
