Art 185 - Metalwork and Jewelry
This class is part of the course of study within the Art Department,
which infers the study of aesthetic and design principles. This
is not a commercial jewelry class. As with any class within a College
setting learning is the basic implication. This learning is accomplished
through exposure to new skills, ideas, concepts, and philosophies.
The students will be introduced to basic techniques and skills necessary
to accomplish assigned projects. An emphasis will be placed on the
correct and competent use of hand tools needed to accomplish technical
exercises and projects.
Art 186 - Advanced Metalwork and Jewelry
The study in this course will continue the students' exploration
of the use of metal as a medium for aesthetic and personal expression.
The student will be introduced to silver casting and advance stone
setting. Other techniques of jewelry making such as chasing, repousse
and possibly enameling can be explored. A student may elect (with
instructor approval) to concentrate and research a particular technique.
An emphasis will be placed on the correct and competent use of hand
tools needed to accomplish technical exercises and projects. Art
186 may be repeated up to 3 times for a total of 12 credit hours.
