ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In a time when science is beginning to give us the capacity to choreograph our bodies, what new forms will our desires create? My current artwork offers a melancholy answer to this question. Hyperbolic and transfigured, the characters in my paintings conjure a fictional culture after some great cataclysm. Within and beyond this narrative, my paintings speak to the complexity of basic humanity, its vulnerability, beauty and enigma. I compose fanciful dramas amongst the various figures that hint at feelings of tenderness, fear and erotic sensuality.

My exploration of these issues is wedded to the process of painting. For me the nature of painting is a catalytic process of generating and conceptualizing forms. I resolve these forms into an image that is a personalized language-content. In my work I project a dialogue of looking as an alternative to understanding.
