Employment opportunities
In addition to repairing and servicing motor vehicles, many other career possibilities exist for men and women in parts sales, service management, and as service writers.

Job outlook
Because of the growing complexity of automotive technology as well as an ongoing demand for skilled workers, employment potential is excellent for automotive technology graduates, particularly those with electronics training.

Earning potential
In central Illinois, service mechanics’ annual incomes range from entry level to $42,000 and up (highly skilled). Parkland graduates have reported starting salaries of $11/hour ($22,000/year). Graduates have secured employment both locally and out of town.

Career advancement
With experience and good leadership skills, you could advance to shop supervisor or service manager. If you have good people skills, you could become a service writer.

Higher education
With your A.A.S. degree you can transfer to Southern Illinois University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology.
