Many jobs are available in new home construction and at all kinds of residential and commercial buildings needing remodeling and repair.

Job outlook
Continuous maintenance, renovation, and repair of existing structures will create a demand for building and construction repair workers. Construction activity should also increase as population growth demands new housing.

Earning potential
The national average starting salary varies greatly depending on the nature of the work, geographic location, and level of training. In the Champaign-Urbana area, the starting wage is $9/hour or about $19,000/year. After two years of experience, you can expect to earn $11 to $15/hour or about $23,000 to $31,200/year.
