Program
State-of-the-art training facility
Parkland offers a modern training facility dedicated to providing hands-on
experience in all aspects of collision repair. The facility is set up like
an actual collision repair shop and equipped with all the tools and materials
you will use on the job.
An innovative community-sponsored program
Parkland College is one of the few community colleges to offer a specialized
high-tech program in automotive collision repair. Parkland created this program
in response to the training needs of area employers. Our community partners
help keep the training facility up-to-date and offer job opportunities to
graduates. Partners in the collision repair program include State Farm Insurance,
Chief Automotive Systems, Spraybrake Spraybooths, PPG Industries, Mitchell
International, ADP Estimating, I-CAR Education Foundation, Sata Spray Equipment,
Matco Tools, Sears Roebuck and Co., Lincoln Electric, 3M Products, Dust and
Son Auto Supply, TransAir Corp., Midwest Auto Body Supply, The Martin-Senour
Co., and Farmers Insurance.
Hands-on curriculum
Advances in technology have greatly changed the structure, components, and
materials used in automobiles. As a result, many new repair techniques that
require new skills have been created. Parkland's certificate and degree programs
will equip you with the skills you'll need to work in a collision repair
facility.
Your course of study will include suspension steering and four-wheel alignment,
estimating or appraising, structural repair including frame repair and unibody
alignment, custom paint work, and specialized auto body parts repair. Students
who choose to pursue the A.A.S. degree will also study brake systems, refrigeration,
and welding, in addition to advanced body work techniques.
Length of study
Full-time students can complete the certificate in three semesters (fall, spring,
and summer), and the degree in two years (four semesters plus one summer).
Continuing education
Continuing education throughout your career in automotive collision repair
is essential. Attending seminars and classes, reading technical manuals,
and gaining new skills are critical for keeping up with the technological
advances in this industry.
Entry requirements
High school graduation or equivalent is required. Basic math and computer knowledge
as well as good reading and reasoning skills are highly recommended.
