The Computer Programmer / Database Manager
Individually or collaboratively, Computer Programmers and Database Administrators design, develop, or contribute to technological applications that improve our lives at work, home, and play. Programmers and software developers utilize programming languages to write, test, maintain, or revise instructions (programs) that run entire computer systems, perform individual functions, or provide specific solutions. They often collaborate with experts from various fields to create specialized software – either programs designed for specific clients or packaged software for general use – ranging from games and educational software to programs for desktop publishing and financial planning. Database Administrators determine the most effective and efficient ways to store, manage, and extract large volumes of data (information) utilizing structured query languages and database management systems software. They also analyze requirements to set-up new computer databases and identify business and personal applications for data management technologies.
