Office Professional Skills
Parkland’s Office Professional degree prepares you with the skills
needed to coordinate and perform an office's administrative activities or manage and support an organization's office. You'll learn a wide variety of desktop applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, the Internet, and e-mail. You'll add value to your resume with coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, machine transcription, customer service, problem solving, and ethics. You'll also have the option of electing coursework in web design, PC maintenance, medical terminology, or computerized integrated accounting. An internship near the end of your program will give you an opportunity to apply these skills to the workplace. When finished, your solid IT skills and training will help place you at the heart of an organization's communication and information management.
Length of Study
You can earn an A.A.S. in two years of full-time study or longer if on a part-time basis. Certificates can be earned in one year or less of full-time study. A variety of delivery methods— including online, traditional classroom, and self-paced courses—offers flexible scheduling options for busy part-time and full-time students.
Industry Certification
Some of the computer coursework prepares you to earn Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCSA) certifications, formerly - Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS).
Office Assistant Certificate
Prepares students with entry-level skills in computer-related office procedures, including spreadsheet applications, word processing, keyboarding, and machine transcription.
Information Processing Certificate
Prepares students for information processing (data entry, word processing) employment.
Medical Transcriptionist Certificate
Prepares students with skills needed for employment in a clinic or hospital as
a transcriptionist of medical dictation.
