Network System Administration
Networking Skills
Networking computers so they may communicate with each other enables organizations to achieve greater efficiency. As a Network or Computer Systems Administrator, you will design, install, and support an organization's LAN, WAN, VLAN, network segments, or Internet and intranet systems. You will maintain network hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor the
network to ensure secure availability to system users. In the process, you'll gather data to identify customer needs and identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements. You may also plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
Length of Study
Because the program has been designed for both full- and
part-time students, you can earn an A.A.S. degree in two years
of full-time study, or earn a certificate in one semester of
full-time study. (See our Computer Certificates brochure for
more details on networking certificates.)
Industry Certifications
Students in the networking program are prepared to take certification exams for Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Systems Administrator (MCSA), CompTIA A+, Network+, CompTIA Security+, and Cisco Networking Associate (CCNA).
Entry Requirements
High school graduation or equivalent is required. Eleventh grade reading level and algebra levels are necessary to enter this program.
