Microcomputer Support

The Microcomputer Support Specialist
Microcomputer Support Specialists—which include PC technicians, help-desk support staff, software application trainers, and network technicians—provide technical assistance, support, advice, and training to customers in all types of businesses and organizations. You'll use analytical skills, attention to detail, and creativity to troubleshoot, interpret problems, and provide technical support for hardware, software, and systems. You'll also install, modify, clean, and repair PC hardware, software, operating system, and client/server systems. In addition, you may write training manuals, train others on new technology, or evaluate the effectivness and productivity of existing or proposed systems. Our Microcomputer degree and certificate programs provide the theory you need while stressing practical applications necessary to succesfully support and serve your clientele.

Length of Study
You can earn an A.A.S. in two years of full-time study or longer if on a part-time basis. Through a variety of delivery methods—including online, traditional classroom, and self-paced courses—students learn the skills needed for successful careers in the industry.

Industry Certifications 
Topics in this program help prepare you to take the following industry certification exams: A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA), and Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS, formerly MOS - Microsoft Office Specialist).

Microcomputer Certificate
Prepares students to do some programming and to use applications software on microcomputers. Students can earn this certificate in one year of full-time study. All of the courses taken toward the certificate may be applied toward the A.A.S. degree.

Entry Requirements
High school graduation or equivalent is required. Basic math and computer skills, as well as good reading and reasoning skills, are highly recommended.
