1. What is a certification?

A certification proves your competency and shows that you possess the necessary skills and knowledge to be highly successful. It confirms that a professional is knowledgeable and skilled on the latest technology.

2. Why is a certification important?

Certifications build solid careers. Having a professional certification gives you an edge when you're applying for a job or are up for a promotion. It's proof of your abilities and it adds value to your resume. Many employers preferentially hire certified employees. Certifications provide employers with a measure to identify qualified individuals who have appropriate skills to be successful.

3. What courses help to prepare students?

Parkland's CSIT department offers many courses that help students prepare to take certification exams. For a complete list click here.

4. How do I sign up for an exam?

MCAS candidates can contact Loretta Aden at 351-2405 to schedule an exam.

Prometric candidates can schedule exams online at www.Prometric.com. Follow the instructions for Test Takers. Candidates must pay for the exam at the time of registration with either a credit or debit card. To cancel, reschedule, or confirm an exam, visit Prometric online at the same web address. If you encounter problems scheduling your exam, contact Prometric at the toll-free phone number associated with your specific exam. 5. Where do I take the exam?

Exams are administered at Parkland's main campus. Sign in for the exam in D226. Exams are administered in D228. Check in 15 minutes before the exam is scheduled to begin. For information on where to park or how to find the Prometric Testing Cetner (D228), click here.

6. What should I bring for the exam?

You must show two forms of identification in order to take the exam. Both IDs must have a signature and one must be government-issued and contain a photograph.

Acceptable Government-issued Photo/Signature IDs include:

  • Driver's License
  • Passport
  • Military ID (when it contains a signature)
  • Other government issued-ID with photo

Acceptable Signature/Secondary IDs include (all must include a signature):

  • Government employee ID
  • University or College ID
  • Credit Card
  • Debit or check cashing card
  • Non-government employee ID
  • Health insurance card

Social Security cards, Parkland student/employee IDs, birth certificates, birth registrations, and movie rental or other "club" member cards are UNACCEPTABLE forms of identification.
