Child Development: CDA Preparation

Minimum graduation requirement — 10 semester hours

The CDA Preparation Certificate prepares students for Child Development Associate (CDA) assessment by fulfilling the requirement for 120 clock hours of training in eight subject areas that is needed to apply for the CDA credential. Upon completing the CDA Preparation Certificate and earning a CDA credential from the Council for Professional Recognition, a student is eligible to receive credit toward the Child Development A.A.S. degree. The number of additional credit hours (generally 7) is awarded after the student’s resource file and training experiences are evaluated by the Child Development faculty.

Program Notes*
• A criminal background investigation is required prior to field experience. Students are responsible for any fees.
• CHD 157 may be repeated for second CDA setting.
• CHD 185 is not required for students holding valid American Red Cross cards.
• Students may substitute CHD 124 Program Planning for the Young Child (3 credit hours) for CHD 152, 154, and 155.
