Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)
Minimum graduation requirement — 66 semester hours

The Respiratory Care Program prepares students to become respiratory therapists. In addition to treating respiratory disease, the respiratory therapist may also be involved with education, clinical supervision, departmental management, and therapeutic decision making. This program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Program notes
• This is a selective admissions program — you must be admitted into the program before taking RTT courses. Students must assess into ENG 101, college-level reading (83 or above on COMPASS), and MAT 131 for admission to the program. See a counselor/advisor or the health professions recruiter to advise you through the application process.
• Credit/no-credit options are not available for RTT and BIO courses. Students are required to keep a current healthcare provider CPR card, 2.0 minimum GPA, a C or higher in all RTT and BIO courses, and a passing clinical grade in all RTT courses.
• Students transferring in BIO 121 and BIO 122 credit that does not include a cadaver lab must take BIO 162 and BIO 163. Parkland accepts the equivalent BIO courses from students transferring from Heartland Community College, Lake Land College, Danville Area Community College, and Richland College.
