Program Code: GNUR AAS
Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)
Minimum graduation requirement — 65 semester hours
The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares the student to practice nursing at a beginning level, such as a staff nurse position in health care facilities that include hospitals, extended care facilities, clinics, and other community agencies. The program integrates practice and theory and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, 61 Broadway St., New York, NY 10006, 212/363-5555, ext. 153. Part-time schedules are available.
LPN to RN Bridge Program: Advanced standing may be achieved by applicants who have completed an accredited practical nursing program, have a current license to practice as an LPN in Illinois, have completed one consecutive year of clinical practice, and have three letters of recommendation from employers or supervisors. Applicants to the bridge program need to complete all application requirements for the RN program to be considered as candidates. Credit can be obtained for N UR 114, NUR 117, NUR 118, and NUR 1356. Students accepted into the bridge program will take a three-hour course to make sure their knowledge and skills are current and proficient prior to moving into the third semester nursing classes.
Graduates are eligible to take the RN license examination (NCLEX-RN). Students considering application to the ADN program need to be aware of background check and potential legal limitations on licensure.
