The EMS-Paramedic Certificate Program prepares students to practice EMT-Paramedic skills at the advanced level and take the state examination for Emergency Medical Services: Paramedic (EMT-P). The state has requested that all Paramedic courses be taught at the community college level.

The EMS-Paramedic Program meets the National Standard Curriculum provided by the National Department of Transportation

Program Notes
• This is a selective admissions program — you must be admitted before taking EMS courses. See a counselor/advisor or the health professions department chair to advise you through the application process.
• Credit/no-credit options are not available for EMS courses. Students are required to keep current CPR certification, a 2.0 minimum GPA, C or higher in all EMS courses.
• BIO 111 or equivalent and assessment into ENG 101 and MAT 094 are required prior to taking EMT-P courses.
• Student must take and pass EMS 110 (Basic) then perform one year of pre-hospital experience as documented by a pre-hospital EMS agency or have a current Illinois National Registry EMT-Basic or EMT-I license with one year of pre-hospital experience as documented by a pre-hospital EMS agency.
