Minimum graduation requirement — 61 semester hours
The EMS-Paramedic Program prepares students to practice EMT-Paramedic skills at an advanced level. The degree provides an opportunity for increased responsibilities within the field. Graduates are eligible to take the Illinois EMT-Paramedic license examination. Students considering application to the EMT-Paramedic Program need to be aware of background sheet and potential legal limitations on licensure.
Program Notes*
This is a selective admissions program – you must be admitted into the program before taking EMS 112. The student must meet the following requirements:
• Assessment into ENG 101 and MAT 151, successful completion of BIO 111 with a C or greater for admission consideration.
• Be 18 years of age or older prior to taking the Illinois licensure examination.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have a current American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Provider Card or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Card.
• Student must take and pass EMS 110 (Basic) then perform one year of pre-hospital experience as documented by a pre-hospital EMS agency or have a current Illinois National Registry EMT-Basic or EMT-I license with one year of pre-hospital experience as documented by a pre-hospital EMS agency.
• Successful completion of the oral, written and skill competencies of EMT-Basic content.
